The SC Guidelines

On encounters, the Supreme Court has struck a cautionary note to the Government. In 2014, the Supreme Court had laid down elaborate guidelines -- from making it mandatory to register FIRS and investigate the encounter by an independent agency to asking that no officer be given an out of turn promotion or gallantry award for encounter operations till the inquiry is completed. The court listed 16 guidelines to be n^-complied with by the State in case of police encounte These guidelines included a scientific, well-docurr decisive investigation by an independent agency. The Supreme Court laid out that the intelligence tip-I to the encounter should be recorded and a First Ix Report was registered. The Supreme Court held that police encounters require independent investigation" the public's faith in the police force.
